Quintessential: Nirvana's "Breed"

VERSE CHORUS VERSE

Oh Nirvana, the rock band record labels have been trying to find for the last 25 years.

In the late 90s this was the group we all revered and identified with as a game changer in modern rock music. When it comes to their most notable song, it's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" with that simple four chord riff and frankly yelping by one Kurt Cobain.

On a mainstream level "Smells Like" is the typical historical example of the band. When anyone once to reference it, that's the go to option. However, in my view the most quintessential Nirvana song is "Breed" off Nevermind

HOW SO???

The best example of this is a live performance from 1991 at The Paramount Theater.

In a rare moment, the film crew is able to shoot in a more cinematic way with more distinct camera angles and up close shots of the band. You see more of the stage then the audience, there's someone off to the side dancing like it's a 60s surf song, and you can feel the raw energy from all three members.

As some critics put it, "Breed" is their most alive song and of the best examples why this band became so prolific. Bluntly, it was no bullshit.

It's the same reason why their Unplugged was the best album of that series. They didn't do was expected and that's what made them legends.
