A BRIEF PERSPECTIVE ON POSTMATES/DELIVERY APPS

WE AIN'T COOKING

I'll be honest, I don't use Postmates or delivery apps too often. Partially because I live by myself and tend to cook more from my kitchen and I'm aware of all the auxulary fees tied to an order.

However, this type of service isn't going away and at times it can be truly beneficial to the consumer.

A few years ago I was visiting LA and waiting for my parents to arrive at our hotel in Century City. With a late arrival I knew they were going to be hungry but I didn't have a car to pick up something. However, with the UberEats app I was able to order food from a McDonald's and have it delivered to the main entrance. Problem solved!

Similar to online shopping, delivery apps can be addicting. You can waste a half hour easily just going through menus, analyzing promo offers, and then of course rationalizing the bill before confirming

So here's my advice/thoughts on using delivery apps.

If you are one to severely analyze your food when it arrives, then avoid using delivery apps.

Nothing hurts me more then seeing someone pick/debate/deconstruct their food. So unless you want to order something so minimal, don't order from a delivery app.

Listen I know people have food allergies and if you are so concerned, make it yourself.

Be aware, you are gambling that someone will get your order right.

By using a delivery app and giving numerous details, you are risking/hedging that someone will get those notes and apply them to your order. Which is honestly bold because your are instilling trust into strangers, so how mad can you get if something doesn't go right?

Let me put it this way, if you are expecting your order to be quick and done right, but giving five modifications to your order, do you think the person preparing the order will be happy that you are a FOOD DECONSTRUCTIONIST/JERK???

Do your homework and figure out how the order is being placed.

UNDERSTAND, sometimes the delivery app is partnering with the restaurant who gets the order directly and then a courier is pinged to pick it up. Yet, for a lot of places their menu simply gets exported to the app. This means the courier makes/phones in the order, pays with a delivery app debit card and then picks it up. The restaurant/cafe then has no responsibility if the order is messed up because everything solely relies on the courier.

Think twice before putting in a catering order.

Most practical people call a restaurant directly when putting in a large order. So unless we are talking six people or less, do not start ordering food for a full on party though a delivery app and expecting everything to come out exactly right.

It's okay to tell your friends or family members to HURRY UP and put in what they want.

Y'all know how it's like ordering at The Cheesecake Factory, the menu is so massive that you get overwhelmed by the options. Same goes for delivery apps, so don't hesitate to tell your friends/family to hurry the F*** UP and make a decision. It's dinner not a world peace negotiation.

That's it, be kind, and tip your courier/delivery person.
