A NOTE TO THE ENT. INDST. WITH REGARDS TO STREAMING

Folks, l'll make this quick, the future of the entertainment industry is changing everyday and there are more outside forces than ever to challenge it. As I write this we are going through a pandemic and some sectors have literally come to a complete stop. Streaming is the future and is becoming the main outlet for content.

So with that said, keep these three things in mind:

AFFORDABLITY, ACCESIBILITY, & AVAILABILITY

These are the three pillars if you want to see something in streaming to succeed.

AFFORDABILITY- As the cost of actual internet service is always rising, the streaming service being provided needs to be affordable.

ACCESSIBILITY- It shouldn't be hard to connect or log in, with an easy user experience on a computer, tablet, or phone. Search/browsing should be done in seamless fashion.

AVAILABILITY- This is the deal breaker, the content must be diverse, robust, and plentiful. You should never feel like you are using a media player on let's say an airplane with limited options.

THE BEST MODEL-

Always provided a premium (ad-free) and basic (with ads). This is crucial because the last thing you want to do is block a consumer from accessing your content, cause they'll just move on to something else.

EXAMPLE!!!!

When Netflix or Amazon posts a comedy special on social media, that gives me the indication to go on those services and access it.

If Comedy Central does that and I try to access it, they then ask me to put in cable subscriber info, which I don't have since I just get internet, which means I MOVE ON. I'll watch clips of the Daily Show and Crank Yankers via YouTube, but I'm not going through any additional obstacles for a chuckle. But honestly that's how Viacom has always worked, they never want to give full access to the consumer.

The same goes for ESPN, as popular as their site is, it's user experience is annoying.

THE CONTENT NEEDS TO BE SOCIAL MEDIA FRIENDLY

You can come up with all the traditional ad campaigns you want, do massive online billboards on apps and webpages. Your best option is to make the content social media friendly and allow consumer and influencers to share it

This means allowing users to take screenshots, make gifs, memes, etc. Frankly the content needs to be repurposed and carry on a different life of it's own.

That's how it gets attention.

BOTTOM LINE

Give access to the consumer and make it easily available. It's free PR for you to let them repurpose the content and share it on their social. It's quite simple, don't piss off the consumer you need them.
