Higher Love comes back to life!

The interesting history of Whitney Houston's cover of Steve Winwood's "Higher Love."

Dropped late last month and now turning into a summer hit is Whitney Houston's cover of "Higher Love" that has been remastered and remixed by Norwegian producer Kygo. Since this was a posthumous release, I was filled with curiosity to how to the track resurfaced.

                                                                    Original version.

New version.

Anyone of who's been a collector of records, compact discs, and tapes knows about different versions of albums and singles especially international releases.

This can include remixed/instrumental versions of the single and previously unreleased/bonus/b-side tracks.

In this situation, when Whitney Houston's record label Arista was putting out the Japanese edition of I'm Your Baby Tonight in 1990, they added "Higher Love" as a bonus track.

In a pre-internet world, this means if you wanted to buy the song here in America, you would of have to purchase the Japanese version of the album which would always cost more than the original.

One can only imagine that what Kygo just did with "Higher Love", will inspire a ton of DJs/producers to start going down the rabbit hole for b-side and rare tracks from popular artists to remix.
