11:00AM- Doug Stuart sits at his desk and starts to get hungry.
12:00PM- Doug is now getting HANGRY and decides to order a fully loaded burrito bowl from Chipotle.
12:30PM- Doug begins to eat his lunch.
1:00PM- Doug feels a heavy food coma coming on.
1:30PM- Doug falls asleep at his desk and begins to drool on his keyboard.
We've all been here before, it's lunchtime and you're hungry, yet you are worried that what you may eat might put you down for the rest of the day.
It's a battle that requires strategic decision making and relieving agents in the event all of your energy begins to go away because you had to add extra cheese and sour cream.
Try reading the New Yorker after eating this, you won't make it to Shouts and Murmurs.
Personally, it's an everyday challenge. A few weekends ago I had Mizlala (Israeli) in West Adams for lunch and it resulted in drinking a third coffee and a one hour nap to recover.
The mid-day food coma is something that creeps up on you when you least expect it. Like you think you have it together, you'll power through and that fried chicken sammich will give you energy for the afternoon only to find yourself minutes later in the fetal position yearning for your bed and Netflix.
So how do you solve it?!?!?!?! HERE ARE SOME TIPS!!!!!
PACK YOUR ACTUAL LUNCH!
-Some might find this to be a rather daunting task, but this will totally help you prevent the sleeps!
AVOID HEAVY CREAMS, SAUCES, AND DRESSINGS!
-Mac 'n' cheese is good on a cold winter Saturday, not when you have to give a presentation in 40 minutes.
JUST BECAUSE IT'S VEGETARIAN, VEGAN, OR HEALTHY, IT CAN STILL MAKE YOU TIRED.
-Falafel salad with hummus and tahini seems like a great idea if you want to be counting sheep at 2:00pm in the afternoon.
TAKING VITAMIN B12 TO BOOST YOUR METABOLISM AND DRINK HOT BEVERAGES AFTER MEALS.
-This is my daily afternoon ritual.
BUILDING A BED UNDERNEATH YOUR DESK AT WORK!
AND OF COURSE AVOID THESE PLACES FOR LUNCHIE......
